Hi, I’m Jonathan Jung, RRT-NPS, an ECMO Specialist and respiratory therapist.

I created ECMO 143: A Patient & Family Guide to help patients and loved ones better understand ECMO in plain language.

When someone you love is on ECMO, everything can feel overwhelming, unfamiliar, and filled with unfamiliar medical terms that are hard to understand. Even when people try to explain things, the explanations do not always make sense, and one unfamiliar medical term often gets explained with several more.

My goal is to make difficult concepts clearer, answer common questions, and help patients and families better understand what is happening and why.

I write from the perspective of a working ECMO Specialist, using clinical experience, real questions from patients and families, careful research, and plain language to explain ECMO and ICU care as clearly as possible.

Alongside educational articles, I also share patient stories, common ICU questions, and practical explanations to help families better understand the ECMO journey.

What You’ll Find Here

• Plain-language ECMO explanations
• Common ICU and ECMO questions answered
• Patient and family stories
• Medical terms explained clearly
• Practical resources to help you better understand what is happening

Thanks for being here.
